In A Bog Called Earth

I'm Nobody Who Are You?

I'm nobody! Who are you?

Are you nobody too?

Then theirs a pair of us─ don't tell!

They'd banish us you know.

How dreary to be somebody!

How public like a frog

To tell your name the live long day

To an admiring bog!

Emily Dickinson was born in Amherst, Massachusetts in 1830. She knew something about being nobody. Most of her 1800 poems were never published in her lifetime; in fact less than a dozen were and they were altered by the publisher to fit the conventional poetic rules of the time. As we all realize now Emily is a nobody who lives forever in the thoughts of everyone who reads her work.

It seems we all were taught to be somebody.  I want to be a somebody who is as complicated as I can be, in order to conform in today's modern world of accomplishment. In the quest to be recognized, I tend to forget the basic concept that I am in fact a nobody and always will be. That statement is better understood if I separate the word and say no body, instead of making it a compound word. I do live in a reality that requires no body to exist, my essence is pure consciousness. I live in this unformed state simultaneously with my formed state of somebody and usually forget that dimension of consciousness is what makes me what I am in physical form.

The no body in me is part of the no body in everything. I'm connected to all consciousness in this world that's alive and expanding. I do at times feel this awareness, but quickly turn my thoughts back to what I consider the real world. The world of no body however, continues to develop and assist me with my daily task of being somebody. My no body is the foundation for the somebody I will always be through my multidimensional journey.

Emily always knew what the no body dimension is like. Her poetry reveals the nature of its existence. She is connected to all life and shares that knowledge freely, so I can begin to remember my innate nature and then connect with all the physical manifestations that surround me. Everything I experience is a creation of the no body within me; the no body that has no beliefs. When I become aware that I live in multiplicity, I express myself in unrestricted freedom. My free will, choices and perceptions become the guardians of my body experience. I choose probabilities that enhance my physical life and bring meaning and value fulfillment to my illusionary reality.

My emotions are innate sensors that direct my choices and my well being is expressed in my words and actions. The no body in me is all I need to be the somebody I dream about. In the bog called earth, I am a frog that croaks with the voice of no body and my body consciousness becomes aware that there is a pair of us.

Awareness

First we have to understand what awareness is: to be aware, aware outwardly, the colors, the proportions of this hall, aware of the various colors that you have on, aware without any choice, just to watch. And also to be inwardly aware of all the movement of thought, the movement of your gestures, the way you walk, the things you eat the habits you have formed, again without choice, merely to observe attentively. You cannot be aware if there is a division between the observer and the observed.

Those words came from a speech given in 1970 by J. Krishnamurti, the popular writer and speaker. He was born in 1895 and traveled around the world speaking about meditation, human relationships, and how to enact positive change in our global society. At the age of 90 he addressed the United Nations on the subject of peace and awareness, and was awarded the 1984 UN Peace Medal.

Awareness is defined as having the knowledge of something through alertness in observing or interpreting what one sees. There is conscious awareness which implies the sense of feeling such as a draft in a room, or of something that I have certain knowledge of through observation or information. I usually have a sensible awareness of everything around me even though I don't consciously focus on all of it all of the time.

Then there is the inward awareness that my body and mind are functioning in a specific way, allowing me the ability to go about my daily routine without recognizing that awareness. I accept the fact that I will function in a certain way and allow myself the freedom of experiencing physical life. When I perform in this mode, I am the observer as well as the observed. I am one in my intent to be human.

There is another mode of awareness that Krishnamurti talks about and that is the awareness of thought itself. In many situations I am not aware of how a thought comes into my mind; I just find it there and then manifest it or not, depending on my emotional state of mind. I'm not aware of exactly where some thoughts come from, but I think them anyway and usually manifest some sort of matter from them. The diversity of the matter created is then experienced by me and expressed in some fashion. In these situations I am observing what I do, but am not fully connected as the observed. I did not observe where the thought came from I'm just observing the result of it. Later I dissect my creations and justify my actions based on my physical or emotional state of being and then become aware of the probabilities that I live. I then judge myself based on my creations and form an observation about my actions. I am separated from my inner awareness, and I accept this division as normal behavior.

Awareness of thought is the now-age message of being. Becoming aware of where my thoughts come from is the art of reconnecting to my inner self. I am able to manifest the thoughts that make me happy and reject the ones that upset me, by listening to my inner voice. It speaks through my emotions and it speaks with truth. Going within and becoming aware of my impulses allows me to create a world that is peaceful. Inner peace is the first step to manifesting the peace that I want to see externally. I can accomplish this desire by being aware of what makes me who I am. When I become aware that I'm much more than I thought I was, my creations begin to change.

The first step in this inner awareness is to allow myself the opportunity to listen instead of constantly babbling internally and then reacting from the fear I create. If I take a few moments to start listening to my innate voice, I will change my life. The more I listen, the more I change and that change becomes what I experience physically. There is no secret involved in finding peace and security. The road of awareness takes me to the freeway of love where I observe myself being observed by my other self.

Every Form Is Here For Me

If I were alone in a desert

And feeling afraid,

I would want a child to be with me.

For then my fear would disappear

And I would be made strong.

This is what life itself can do

Because it is so noble, so full of pleasure

And so powerful.

But if I could not have a child with me

I would like to have at least one living animal

At my side to comfort me.

Therefore,

Let those who bring about wonderful things

In their big, dark books

Take an animal

To help them.

The life within the animal

Will give them strength in turn.

For equality

Gives strength in all things

And at all times.

Meister Eckhart was born in 1260 in Thuringia. He was an influential 14th century Christian Neo-Platonist. He was a member of the Dominican Order and wrote on metaphysics and spiritual psychology. His work has influenced many German philosophers, as well as others around the world. As you can see from his words about children and animals he regards all life as special and connected in some way.

What is that gift that brings comfort to me when I walk through the desert of loneliness? The innocence of a child or an animal is much more than that, for I feel a certain quality that goes beyond simple companionship. It's a bond that holds all physical life together in a cluster of consciousness that knows no limits. I am connected to the source of well being that this union contains and I lift my ego out of its cage and it's free to interact within the stream of consciousness that has no fear. The life within another form of consciousness fortifies my own existence and I begin to feel whole again.

This unity is ongoing and never ceases to be available to assist me on my physical journey. I can find it everywhere. From the insects to the rocks, this consciousness flows without a tether and is ready when I am to give me the strength to be what I am; a human form of universal expression.

When I begin to use this power is up to me. I have free will and can choose to live in my desert alone and that's okay. That experience teaches me the lesson I need to learn. In this world of diversity there are many lessons I teach myself; there are many hurdles I choose to jump over and under in order to expand. That is life in full bloom. The experience of living in the every moment and accepting the probabilities that manifest is my mission in this time/space reality.

Awareness is the power I give myself. I accept responsibility for my choices and am grateful for the opportunity to surround myself with the consciousness that is my family; a family with no judgment, anger or fear. It forms itself into many shapes and sizes but it is there in complete unity for me. Every form of consciousness is here for me and I am here to appreciate each message and to accept them as my own creation.

Let Me Show You What I Found

Posted on Apr 19th, 2009 by Hal : Poet , Author and Essayist Hal

Who is more responsible than a gull who finds and follows a meaning, a higher purpose for life? For a thousand years we have scrabbled after fish head, but now we have a reason to live, to learn, to discover, to be free. Give me the chance; let me show you what I have found...

That wonderful statement was written by Richard Bach in his 1970 best-seller: Jonathan Livingston Seagull. It is so easy to forget what my purpose in life is and just live each day in a haze of forgetfulness and blame everyone and everything for my unhappiness. I live a life scrabbling for material things and value objects more than I do my self. I spend my time searching for fish heads, not the whole fish, because I believe I am flawed and tainted with some senseless deed I had nothing to do with, and my guilt and fear restricts my ability to remember.

Langston Hughes the great poet, who was born in 1902, knew how easy it is to fall in a state of depression and give up on physical life and my own abilities to change my beliefs. His poem Dreams explains that if I give up and stop dreaming my life will become an empty shell, abandoned by my own desire to give up and I stagnant in the muddy waters of my own lake.

Langston writes:

Hold fast to dreams

For if dreams die

Life is a broken-winged bird

That cannot fly.

Hold fast to dreams

For when dreams go

Life is a barren field

Frozen with snow.

In dreams I create. I create things that manifest in my waking state. I am constantly in motion, my sleeping state is in more motion that my waking state. Jonathan expressed his dream and began to live it physically. He believed that there is more to life than just half a fish; there are many fish to learn from; there are endless choices to discover and experiences and there is a state of freedom that is waiting for me to believe in it. There are no restrictions, no barriers or roadblocks unless I put them there and forget how they got there. My belief system creates the reality I experience and express, and I can change it at any point in my journey.

The big question is why don't I do it if it's so easy? Why do I put my self through such misery when love surrounds me? Why, Why, Why? That answer is an individual one. I choose to experience life to learn and expand in awareness of my own consciousness. I choose an illusion, a linear path of forgetfulness in order to remember what I already know. I choose to allow my consciousness to separate in order to remember my own wholeness. I choose to live my physical life so that I can discover other aspects of my self that expand as I expand. The point is I choose and I experience each probability to reunite with my own consciousness. There is no time clock ticking frantically pushing me to remember. My beliefs tell me there is, but once again that is a choice I make. There is no right or wrong way to experience my physicality, but I make those associations in order to judge my own choices. There are no fish heads; there are only whole fish that I dissect by my own thoughts about them. There is not just one self, there is a plethora of selves that comprise my entity and each choice brings me closer to remembering them.

In dreams I create my world. In dreams I expand without my physical body and connect to my inner consciousness and build a paradise that is ever changing in its own creative juices. When I allow my self the freedom to express my dreams physically a new world is born and I give my self the choice to show my self what I have found.

The Blue Blanket

Posted on Apr 25th, 2009 by Hal : Poet , Author and Essayist Hal

We are so proud of the sky that we produce on our horizon.

Our stars twinkle and wink and they know us.

We have no problem of recognition

Our rocks and pine trees speak for us.

That thought was written by C.T. Mukpo and it does explain that what I see on the outside is a product of what I create on the inside. Each morning I get out of bed and realize that there is a world of wonder waiting for me to experience it. Challenges I might call clouds wait for me, as I become a self from a horizon of dreams. My inner consciousness shines brightly, but it's covered by the blue blanket of energy, I call the only reality.

There are days when the blue is covered with gray and the air is filled with moisture. I credit someone or something else for the weather I experience. I forget the power of my thoughts, so I wait for the sky to turn blue again. Those days are filled with a mixture of anticipation and prayers. I want the blue to return, but I need the rain as well, so my ego credits its maker for the power it displays over me.

The plants and trees acknowledge whatever they produce. They recognize the beauty that is within them and accept the blue, as well as the gray as they innately grow in the soil that is rich with their own energy. The roots that spread through this underworld create a complex display of consciousness that intertwines with other consciousness and becomes a showcase of expansion. Each root moves in cycles of awareness and fills the soil with physical evidence of its desire to be.

The animals follow a similar path. They too are rooted in the collective consciousness that expands through their manifestations. The blue sky is a back drop provided by some other energy and they function within it graciously. The horizon they experience is the manifestation of human consciousness, but they participate in order to share the diversity that enriches the experience of manifestation and expansion of all consciousness.

All consciousness twinkles and winks and knows each other in the inner reality. Each form of life speaks in its own way and travels through time in a capsule created by them in order to express love. The process is unending as changes and adjustments are made in the action of consciousness, in order to experience the expansion of awareness.

Now at the dawn of a new day, the blue energy is beginning to awaken from its journey around my mind and light becomes time. I thank my consciousness for connecting me to this world of riches. I thank the animals, plants and trees for their company along the way. I thank my source for providing the energy to keep me stable and aware of the enormous opportunity I have to expand. I thank my self for knowing that the blue sky, the stars that shine, and the horizon are the products of my inner consciousness, which twinkles and winks while supplying me energy through my journey called linear time.
