Be The Gift!
Being of service to others may be a smile, a loving word or support when it is least expected. Being of service to others is simply to make a gift of who you are to another. BE the gift
Every day of your life.
Jani King wrote those words in her book The Gift. How easy it is to forget what a smile or a pleasant word or gesture can do. It certainly feels good to express joy; to express well-being and to share it.
Walking down the path of physical life I get caught in the drama of my choices at times, and I make my world seem cold, empty and lonely. I move through each probability expecting something good to change my feeling about this reality I live, and sure enough I will meet someone who is a living gift. I don't recognize the smile or word of kindness as a gift because my preconceived ideas about a gift are something that I can take to the bank, or put in my house, or wear as a symbol of my importance. Gifts are free things that add to the pile of things I call my stuff.
Receiving anything from someone else is always special, I get to feel good about myself, and after all, there are only certain times of the year I get gifts. It must be a ritual event signifying advancement in age or in the gift giving season I call Christmas. Every now and then I get a gift from my workplace or in the mail. I got a dollar in the mail the other day that was attached to a card and it was mine to keep if I did something that would help the person that gave me this gift.
. Most of the time I feel like gifts have an agenda; I must do something to keep the gift. Phone companies, credit cards, car dealers and retailers all want to give me a gift, but in order to keep it I must do what they ask of me. Conditional gift giving has become an accepted way of doing business and for me it takes the art of gift giving to another place called ego driven motivation. The definition of a gift has been expanded to suit the needs of business and money making.
Jani's words remind me that the greatest gift I can give anyone is the love I have within me. With a smile or a kind word I make a difference in vibration. I am giving my thoughts to another in order for them to experience the energy of connection.
That energy is ready to bring health and wellness to all who receive it openly. Going through a day filled with smiles and laughter creates a gift-filled experience that changes my thoughts and perhaps the thoughts of others.
The simple act of connecting energy with positives thoughts is so strong that it continues to give long after the initial act is performed. Memory keeps it alive and strong in my reality; I live it over and over again because it makes me feel good and that is what I go through life searching for... the feeling of unity and closeness. It's the gift of oneness in diversity.
I know being human makes me want to give more than gestures and words in order to fit into the mold of society. I know it's expected and conformity rules in democracy, but what if I offer my unconditional service to all life in gratitude and expect nothing? What if create a world that smiles in the face of contrast and laughs in the midst of problems?
What if I give my service and love to everyone I meet because it feels good? I believe my world changes and I begin to remember the power that unconditional love projects in physical form. I become a conductor of beautiful vibrations; a curator of fun and laughter; a collector of positive energy and a soul that shares its physical life in service graciously.

Yes, Hal: the greatest gift I can give anyone is the love I have within me.
Just the simplest things seem to make the most difference: a kind word, a cheerful hello, a comment on a blog, a smile, a wave, a connection. What if we do just offer unconditional service to all life in gratitude and expect nothing? It's those expectations which sometimes creep in….but awareness can keep us awake and able to transform them as they appear. Thank you!
OMG. This is so beautiful my heart is doing cartwheels. Hal and Centria, is there not anything more important in life than this unconditional giving and sharing and receiving of love. Sometimes I think we each, individually, are something like the cells the atoms (the quantum field?!) within one body. How we need to reflect goodness back to one another, for the wellbeing and expansion of the whole. The oneness of all. Yow!
Yes, Jeannie we are all of those things and more. We are the gift we give to ourselves. We box it, wrap it, and tie it with the ribbon of forgetfulness and wait for someone else to open it, never realizing the top was never sealed.
It's time to pop the lid off of the box and be the one that gives to many.

Hal! You mirror me and I adore you for it! Well, not just for that, but it's good to see someone who understands the way I do things. There's such a very good feeling from giving from the heart, and people respond to it definitely. In a world where people are treated so often as commodities, a sincere word or moment of personal recognition can do wonders for them. It makes the difference and I think it is time well spent. It's freeing…
Particularly for Hal I would link you to my blog on Values so you see my 'mirror' holding out to you. It's funny how these topics are coming up today… God in action I think. But anyone can read of course.
Thanks so much. Your friend, sherri
'' Going through a day fllled with smiles and laughter creates a gift filled experience ''
So true, and so achievable in every moment,
when we choose to share our joy and love we do gift others…
You inspire me to '' be'' the gift and gift others with my love, smiles and intention to
'' share''
Thank you my friend..
This beautiful video on divine love was recommended by my friend Lars in this blog. I thought I would share it.
Blessings to you. sherri
Thanks Sherri!

Oh, how I needed to hear this. I have fallen short of fully being this type of example. Yes, to do it unconditionally and without expectation. The Vedas speak of not being attached to the fruits of our given, to just give. This shows up in many of the “teachings.” Thanks for this reminder. Interesting that I saw reference to this on Janet's blog as Sherri had commented that this blog had meant something to her. So, thanks Sherri for the pointer.
Thanks for the reminder Hal. This is a great way to start a day, a boost to my spirit. I will surely be more of a gift to those I see today.
All in One,
Doug
Thank you Satya- Seer and Doug for your thoughts. I appreciate your gifts and your friendship.
